Every local seems to have a sea lion story, and one that still gets shared involves our skipper, Pete, who was diving when a curious bull decided one of his fins looked far more interesting than anything else underwater. Before Pete had a chance to react, the sea lion had grabbed the fin and disappeared, leaving him to surface with one foot bare and a story that still gets plenty of laughs.
It's a reminder that these are completely wild animals. Every encounter happens on their terms, and sometimes their curiosity leads to moments you'll never forget.
One of the most fascinating things about the Jurien Bay Marine Park is that Australian sea lions and Australian fur seals can sometimes be found living surprisingly close to one another.
